Proposoal to ma(r)ry -- or just another annoyance?
Posted by coldtobi | 28 Oct, 2007, 09:58On a regular basis, I gonna look into my server logs. Sometimes, there is a referrer, a hint to a noteworthy site. This time, curiosity hit me as I read "http://www.proposal-to-marry.com", as I also married a Maria some weeks ago. The site tells, that a guy poped the question, but using a "special" way: Starting a email chain mail.
These type of mails are wandering around the net for years. But the Intenet is that big that chances a quite low that it will reach an individual. So, better be a man and ask mary face-to-face. Okay, you know your mary best, but I do not know many women who'd prefer this idea to something more "normal". But I htink you are sure that won't backfire.
But away from the "cute" content. We all hate spam. I'm sure you won't disagree on that. And, commonly chain-mails are considered as spam. The question to answer, if a proposal like this also qualifies as as spam, and if it justifies an exception. I think that it qualifies and spam never justifies an exception.
To stop wasting my time on this, I am gonna end this article with an quote from emailjunkyard.com:
Send E-Mail Junk Responsibly: This may come as a great shock, but many people hate getting junk e-mails. No matter how funny, cute or inspiring an e-mail might be, some people don't like having an in-box littered with the latest jokes and hoaxes. Please use the material in this archive responsibly and do not send it to someone who does not wish to receive it. Sending e-mail junk to people who haven't requested it can cause loss of friendship, profane e-mail responses, and ostracism. Generally, it annoys the bejeebers out of people. So think a minute or two before clicking that send button.
If forwarding any chain mail, please consider this. And, be sure to know that this mails have the potential to spread exponentially. So a single mail not sent make a huge difference.
