La Fonera: Autoupdate to 0.7.1.5
Posted by coldtobi | 15 Oct, 2007, 12:16"There is something suspicious"
This is, what I read in the logs, when I recently checked the logs of my fonera. It told me, that there was some answer from the "fon-home-script", thinclient.sh.
Closer investigations gave the reason for this: fon updated the la-fonera software another time. This time, the hotfix and the changes are both small. The Changelog gave me the first hints what to look for:
Bugs:
[DNS change] DNS queries are properly managed now when the WAN IP address of La Fonera changes.
As I won't upgrade unseen changes, I analyzed the changes, as "DNS-update" sounds a like that could include a fix for that chilli "exploit", using dns as a helper.

Network Attached Storage
Posted by coldtobi | 14 Oct, 2007, 17:39Last week, at a local groceries discounter, they has an NAS on sale, but were already out of stock at the time I was there.
To be more precise, it was actually an NDAS (<--warning: marketing speech. Read their FAQs for a bigger picture.), so afterall I am not mad that I was too late.
As I was not familiar with N(D)AS, I did some research, and found, that NDAS has some properties which I don't think they are appropiate for a NAS. Others would call this "just cost-optimized".

Back from vacation!
Posted by coldtobi | 10 Oct, 2007, 12:20The bad thing on vacations is, that time flys by and that they eventually end. Unfortunatly, this trip was not an exception to that rule.
Okay, 3 ½ weeks are are long time for a vacation, but Canada is such a vast and great land.
My plans are, that I will blog a little about my vacation, spiced with some pictures, but now I really should focus on my master thesis...
