Seamless integration Google Search into Lifetype (Part 1)

Posted by coldtobi | 16 Jul, 2008, 17:43 Some weeks ago, I integrated the Google Search into the blogging platform on this site. At this time I already planned to do a "how to", as this might be also interesting for others. Seamless integration means, that the search results are embedded in the look and feel of the blog: It should use the same templates and also present the search results matching to the design of the blog.

Of course, you don't want to maintain different template system, so best the search engine will use exactly the same template files also used for the rest of the blog.

Google Search for websites improved

Posted by coldtobi | 4 Jun, 2008, 17:20

When subsribed to AdSense, you also get the opportunity to include a "Google Search" for your website. Frequent reader of my blog will remember, that I already tried this to improve your overall blog reading experience.

Don't get me wrong. The lifetype's own search engine is very well, but Google is specialized on search engines and can offer a lots more: Maybe you already encountered that correction of some misspelled words in the search query come very handy. Also, the algorithm knows about synonyms and will also include them in the search result. Example: (For the German readers): Try to search the obsolete term "Nulleiter", and it will search as well for the (correct) term "Neutralleiter".)

Google ceases AdSense Referral in Germany

Posted by coldtobi | 24 Jan, 2008, 14:18
Logging in to Google, it shows, that Google stops referrals for AdSense. Ok, the only referral I am currently in is for the firefox browser, but I never promoted AdSense in the referral program, but in case you are doing, you probably want to stop advertising for AdSense.
Unfortuantly noone can tell why this is, as the Learn More link also directs to a "Topic not found" page.
NOTE

At the end of January, we will no longer support referrals to the AdSense product in Germany. If you are displaying referral units directing visitors to use AdSense, you will need to update your pages. Learn more..

Anyway, I was already thinking about to completly stop serving ads for google. My blog has just a too small niche to "make money" with or even the hosting costs, as well on the other sides serving ads makes this blog "commercial" (no, you won't have to make profit to qualify). Which is actually bad because you have to concern about a lots more of laws in Germany. Anyway, this is a hobby blog, and adsense was an experiement which appearantly failed.

PS: Google actually ceases worldwide except America and Japan.  (See here, plus  a nice video some of how the publishers might think. )

Sharoogle vs Google

Posted by coldtobi | 3 Jul, 2007, 16:46

Many people integrate Google' Search into their homepages. Google's search engine is (more) powerful and easy to integrate. Because of that, I decided to give that service a try and installed it last week on this blog. Top of it, one can earn some cents, if an visitor finds an sponsored link more temptating than the regular search results.
